Words of Wisdom from a Senior -- 41 Life Lessons

Thank you John for this E-mail....thought I would post it on my blog.  41 wonderful life lessons!!

Written By Regina Brett, 90 years old, of The Plain Dealer, Cleveland , Ohio

"To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 41 lessons life taught me. It is the most-requested column I've ever written>"

1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.
2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.
3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.
4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch.
5. Pay off your credit cards every month.
6. You don't have to win every argument.. Agree to disagree.
7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone..
8. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.
9. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
10. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.
11. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
12. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.
13. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.
14. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.
15. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.
16. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.
17. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.
18. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.
19. Over prepare, then go with the flow.
20. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.
21. The most important sex organ is the brain.
22. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.
23. Frame every so-called disaster with these words ''In five years, will this matter?".
24. Always choose life.
25. Forgive everyone everything.
26. What other people think of you is none of your business.
27. Time heals almost everything. Give time, time.
28. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
29. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
30. Believe in miracles.
31.. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.
32. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young.
33. Your children get only one childhood.
34. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.
35. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.
36. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.
37. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
38. The best is yet to come.
39. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
40. Yield.
41. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift..

Friends are the family that we choose for ourselves

Furniture Moving Day

Remember the days, when we as parents, gave our children furniture to tide them over in their new apartments/houses?

Well today the tables have turned.  My son is passing on his humongous wrap around couch and Big Screen TV to us as he awaits delivery of his new couch and TV.  Our cat, Midnight, is just thrilled...she used to belong to my son....that couch was hers and I watched her delightedly jump on it, sniff and then snuggle in.  It has been a couple of years for her....but the memory and the scent of her old roomies (son's two other cats) still linger.  I would say Midnight is in seventh heaven now.  A few months back son brought over her big climbing tree (as his other cats were not using it)...and now the couch.  What a happy cat.

One of my all time favorite Christmas Carols.  You Tube:  John Berry...Oh Holy Night.  What an amazing voice he used to have before he blew his vocal chords!!

Pray you are all having a Safe and Happy Day....May God Be With You Today and Always.

Best Birthday Gifts Ever

Sorry folks....I have to keep this one short and sweet...heading out to my moms to take her Christmas and grocery shopping...and give her the weekly shot.  It is bitterly cold...so we will be sure to bundle up nice and warm.

On Sunday was my 57th birthday.....and I received four of the best gifts ever.

#1...Got to spend the day with my mom, my kids and my grandkids.
#2...Got a phone call from my cousin Emmi....her breast cancer surgery was successful...they did a lumpectomy and will follow up with radiation....her doctor is quite confident that all cancer cells were removed (the radiation is just a precaution).  She was upbeat and happy.

#3...The day before my birthday I lost a priceless family heirloom (my grandparents gold wedding bands...joined together).
#4...My mom is doing better (healthwise) and seems to be a little happier.  I thank God for even the smallest of miracles.

I turned the house upside down looking for those missing rings,, phoned around to stores where I might have inadvertently lost them...spent a whole night with no sleep trying to ponder where they could have gone.  Even went up and stuck my hand in a garbage bag where I had bunny shavings from when I had cleaned the cage (did this at three in the morning).  Nothing!!  In desperation I cried out to the Lord and asked Him for his help.  I also apologized to my deceased grandparents and asked them to help.
Around noon...the day of my birthday I was once again up cleaning the bunny cage...decided to check that garbage bag with the used shavings (a little voice in my head told me to do so)...and there they were (PTL).  I cannot tell you how thankful I was.  The inscription on the rings....Josef and Frieda  1929.  Before I wear them again I will be sure to get them re-sized so this never happens again.  I want to pass these rings on to the next generation and hope they will stay in the family for generations to come.
So all in all, it was a wonderful birthday.

I want to thank all of you for the birthday e-cards, the birthday wishes left here on my blog, in my notes, and in my private messages...and the many left on my Facebook wall.  What a wonderful, loving group of friendsRed heart

Sending out a Big Hug to Our Awesome Doctor

Finally some good news....Mom's shoulder is getting better.  She is able to move it around more and the pain is considerably less than it was a few days ago before the Doctor gave her the cortisone shots.  I am so thankful for  doctors that actually listen and react....they are one in a million!!  I've been going to him for over 30 years now...and quite honestly, I am not looking forward to the day he decides to retire.  He is the same age as my hubby 63 pushing 64.   He assures me that he will continue his practice as long as he is able.

My son-in-law has figured out the problem with daughter's van and should get it up and running sometime tomorrow.  Today they are all cramming into their little car and taking Hannah, Mattias and Quinn to visit mom.

I've got a ton of paperwork to catch up with (for my son)...so I guess I'd better get to it and quit procrastinating Smile

Pray all my Blog Family, and anyone else that stumbles across my space, has a wonderful weekend.

Hugs, Blessings and Red heart
