First H1N1 death in our community

Needless to say, our Community is in shock.  We have had our first H1N1 death.  A young, healthy, fit 26 year-old mother of a one year-old girl.
She started off with a head cold...by the next day she was having trouble breathing and checked herself into the local hospital.  They sent her to a larger medical centre....where at some point she ended up in intensive care with organ failure.  From the onset of the head cold to her death....One Week!!

My mom's shots were cancelled on Oct 9th.  I made phone calls to the specialist begging and pleading with his "ditzy" receptionist....all to no avail.  I sent a fax to the family doctor explaining what was going on and our concerns....because the specialist is heading off on holidays Oct 20th.  Yesterday morning, in a last ditch attempt I had hubby call the "ditzy" receptionist.  He requested that her files be transferred to the Family Doctor and we would get him to find a Radiologist to administer the required shots.  Later, yesterday afternoon mom got a call from the specialist's office telling her to be at the hospital at 3.  So today, we trekked into the city....and Hallelujah...mom got them!!   Oddly enough we had two appointments set-up (according to the receptionist in the Radiology department)  one with her specialist and another one with a Radiologist who was willing to administer the shots.
Will wonders never cease?  I am thankful beyond measure.  Somebody was watching over usRainbow Sun Red heart.

Hopefully the meds will kick in soon so mom gets relief from the excrutiating pain she has had to endure.

Ummm....one more thing before I sign out for the night....here is a picture of our newborn "great grandson" Nicholas...he was born on October 13th weighing a whopping 9 lbs 12 oz.

I have three young adult step-grandchildren....Nicholas is the son of oldest).

Thank goodness your mother got her shots, I just hate that it took an act of Congress to get it. of course, in Canada, that phrase doesn't specifically apply but you know what I mean. I am still irritated with the person who decided to go on holiday with people in wracking pain!!! "Get a substitute for your patients, you moron" is what I was thinking!!! All is well now.
I went through all of the pictures and they are each one delightful.

I'm Stuck between a Rock and a Hard Place!!! I really Want to get the H1N1 Shot, but then again i do not want it, because i do not know enough about it, and my nurse said that if i got the Shot i WOULD get SICK, because it is a Live Virus, Well i do not want to get Sick, I am a Really Big Baby when i get Sick and i feel like i am going to Die, My Nurse asked me if i was going to get the Flu Shot and i said No, and she said well that one is Dead and it might make you sick, then i told her noooo, it makes me Sick, and since i have not gotten a flu shot i normally do not get sick. For people that work around other people like at a school or a Hospital, then they should get a Flu shot.
Karin, I am so happy that your Mother got all of her Shots and i am so Praying that she gets Pain Free today!

So glad to hear your Mom got her shot. It is pretty sad that you had to go through all that in order to get it though. Your great-grandson is adorable! Your family just keeps growing and growing!

I am a bit worried about the whole swine flu thing. We have more than 5 cases of swine flu at my place of employment right now. We are not supposed to know that information but word leaks out! Makes me angry that they keep that info from the workers and the parents of the children. I know they dont want people to panic but some people need to know. Especailly those with asthma! I am afraid it is going to get worse before it gets better. Unfortunatley. :(

Good that she finally got those shots. Hate to see healthy young adults struck down with this virus. We really need to get our teens immunized.
