11月21日 Sending out a Big Hug to Our Awesome Doctor Finally some good news....Mom's shoulder is getting better. She is able to move it around more and the pain is considerably less than it was a few days ago before the Doctor gave her the cortisone shots. I am so thankful for doctors that actually listen and react....they are one in a million!! I've been going to him for over 30 years now...and quite honestly, I am not looking forward to the day he decides to retire. He is the same age as my hubby 63 pushing 64. He assures me that he will continue his practice as long as he is able.My son-in-law has figured out the problem with daughter's van and should get it up and running sometime tomorrow. Today they are all cramming into their little car and taking Hannah, Mattias and Quinn to visit mom.
I've got a ton of paperwork to catch up with (for my son)...so I guess I'd better get to it and quit procrastinating
Pray all my Blog Family, and anyone else that stumbles across my space, has a wonderful weekend.
Hugs, Blessings and 11月19日 Got a lot accomplished at mom's doc appt yesterday...but the drive home was a nightmareLeft my house at quarter to 11 yesterday...got to mom's around 11:30. Helped mom get ready to go...we left her place at 12. Arrived in the city shortly after 1 (just enough time to grab a quick bite to eat before her 2 pm appt).
Told the doc about her good shoulder which is now going bad ...suggested that maybe she had bursitis? Gotta love it when doctors actually listen. He sent me to the pharmacy next door to pick up some cortisone and gave mom three shots in her shoulder. He also renewed some of her prescriptions...next stop...Safeway pharmacy to fill the prescriptions then off to the X-ray clinic to have those shoulders X-rayed and back to the pharmacy to pick up the filled prescriptions. We left the city about quarter to 4.
That is when the nightmare traffic began. It was wet, windy, dark...traffic accidents all over the place. Took us almost 3 hours to get back to my house. Had to get hubby to drive mom for the last leg home...I was a nervous wreck and dead tired....but we got everything accomplished. Hopefully the cortisone shots will offer her some relief within a few days. If not, we will at least find out what the X-rays discovered.
In other news...sent hubby to the dentist this morning...he woke up looking like a chipmunk...one cheek was swollen (no pain) but I still suspect an abscess. Sure enough, it was an abscess...dentist put him on an antiobiotic and an antibacterial....next week he has to have the tooth extracted (can't be saved).
Hannah had a very sore throat yesterday and then ended the day with the runs...so far, today, other than the sore throat her tummy his been OK.
The power steering in my daughter's van conked out. She had a heckofa time steering that sucker to get the kids home from school safely ...hopefully her hubby can diagnose and fix the problem today. She relies heavily on that van to transport kids to and from school. He figured out the problem...but it won't get fixed today. Will have to wait now 'til Saturday (his next day off).
My cousin's breast surgery has been postponed until the Nov 24th....see, even in Germany things don't always run like clockwork.
Haven't heard how Stuart fared after his first round of Chemo....but I suppose it is too early to tell....he will need many more treatments before an assessment can be made.
More wet, windy weather today...blech!!
Oh, and my Wednesday Rant (a day late). On Tuesday mom and I went to the Walmart near her place looking for a highchair for Quinn. I asked a saleslady where I might find the highchairs and she said "We don't carry them". What...a Walmart with no high chairs?? "Oh, says she...its a very small store" Not that small (far as I could tell). She told me to try Sears or Zellers. We had to go over to the baby food section anyway and I happened to glance around a corner and you'll never guess what I found....Highchairs!! I promptly went and tracked the saleslady down and asked her to follow me. When we got to the correct aisle I pointed and said "Voila...highchairs...just so you know for future customers". She was all apologetic and tried to make the excuse that she hadn't been working there that long and wasn't familiar with the store. All I can say to her is ....pick up a friggin' phone or ask someone before you tell people you don't carry something....Sheesh!! I think I embarrassed my mother by being so brash...but hey...you know, I believe in good customer service and someone's got to educate them...so why not??
Well, that's it for me today.
Sending all my blog family Hugs and Blessings....Be Well
4 of my bathtub babies....not 3.
11月15日 Taking mom back to the doctorNow my mother's good shoulder is giving her trouble. It is to the point where she can barely get dressed or pull up her pants. On Wednesday I am taking her to the family doctor (another long trip into the city) and I have no doubt he will be sending her for an X-ray to see what is going on. I'm hoping it is something simple like Bursitis where periodical cortisone shots will help....but given the extent of her Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis, and Osteoporosis...I have to prepare myself and her for the worst too.
Heading out to her place in a short while to get some emergency pills to see her through until we've seen the doc. Also going to go out for dinner with her and see if there are any household chores she needs doing. Tuesday I'll be back at her place to administer her Enbrel, and Wednesday it off to the docs. Another busy week ahead.
Seems our H1N1 problem has peaked up here....the number of deaths was minimal (way less than the number during the regular flu season). I, personally, am glad we did not get the vaccine. I'm still convinced that we all had the H1N1 last May. Everybody in the family (except for mom) were sicker than a dog...and it lasted a good month. My daughter (who was in the last weeks of her pregnancy) was also very ill. I have no doubt that after Quinn was born the remnants of the illness were still hanging around so in looking back it was no surprise that the poor little tyke ended up in hospital with a collapsed lung. At any rate....we are all fine...so I suspect we are immune. Not that I was ever worried about contracting the H1N1. It is just another flu !!
Hope you are all well....here are a few pictures of Quinn and Mattias. Quinn absolutely adores her big brother.
Take care...all of you.
*Many Hugs and Blessings*
And if you have a few minutes...I have 2 prayer requests....one for my cousin Emmi who will be going in for breast cancer surgery tomorrow and the other for the son of one of my best childhood friends (he is battling non-hodgkins Lymphoma). Stuart had his first round of Chemo on Friday.
11月9日 Why Wear a Poppy? Remembrance Day November 11...Lest We Forget
Why Wear a Poppy? Remembrance Day November 11...Lest We Forget 11月5日 Going to have to do an Inventory of my mom's belongings!!The last few times I've been to see mom (shortly after my brother and his g/f) had been down I have noticed that her shelves (bookshelf, hutch, etc.) seem to be a tad emptier. I thought it was just my imagination. When I mentioned it to mom she said "Oh well, they must have just moved stuff around when they were dusting". I saw no signs that anything had been dusted...except for the odd spots where there was no dust and it looked as if something had been removed.
Anyway, I let it go, thinking that perhaps mom had given brother and g/f stuff (none of my business). When mom was asked she denied it).
Last week, when my daughter and the kids were there, she too, noticed that the shelves seemed emptier.
On Tuesday, I was out at moms and my niece and nephew (brother's kids) and his ex-wife were there for a visit. They too, commented on the fact that they thought things were going missing. My niece mentioned that she had been up to her dad's and noticed things that she could have sworn came from moms place...but she didn't say anything because she wasn't 100% sure.
Mom denies that she gave them anything...especially not the g/f (NOBODY in the family likes or trusts her).
So I have decided to go out and do an inventory of all my moms China, Crystal, Figurines, and other knick knacks...valuable and sentimental ones. Also want to keep track of my dads many paintings (ones he painted himself)...and his many wildlife prints (some that are very expensive).
I'm always complaining that my brother doesn't come down to visit mom often enough...now I am actually relieved. If they are the culprits they would have cleaned her out by now. As far as I'm concerned they can just stay away...or he can come alone. I doubt he would steal from his mom....but I'm also sure that he would help the g/f cart stuff away (he is a wimp and likely afraid of the g/f ....she is a very mentally unstable person and I suspect my brother doesn't have it all together either).
One day, we might just drive up to their place for a reconnaisance mission...and take a look see for ourselves. Of course we would have to arrive unannounced and hope they are home...otherwise it would be a 3 to 4 hour drive for nothing.
GRRR!! I'm thinking Elder Abuse...and I fully intend to put a stop to it!!
That's my Wednesday Rant...a day late...but better late than never.
Hope all is well with my Blog Family
*Hugs and Blessings to all*
10月31日 Happy HalloweenHappy Halloween
Have a safe and Happy Halloween to all the Trick or Treaters (young and old).
Hope to add more pictures later tonight, or tomorrow, of the other three grandkids in their costumes. Sleepover at grandma's for Noah tonight. My daughter, son-in-law and I are taking the 4 little ones trick or treating and hubby gets to stay home and hand out candy. He loves doing that...makes the kids tell jokes, sing, dance or whatever they wish....even a great big smile will suffice for him. The best part is (that unlike me) he does not eat any of the chocolate treats until the kids are all done trick or treating....what a guy!!
10月21日 Autumn ColorsSent hubby out yesterday, with our el cheapo camera, to take some pictures of the beautiful fall colors. He didn't do a bad job.
My mom is feeling much better....her shots finally kicked in and she felt well enough to go and get her hair permed.
Other than that...nothing new around here.
10月16日 First H1N1 death in our communityNeedless to say, our Community is in shock. We have had our first H1N1 death. A young, healthy, fit 26 year-old mother of a one year-old girl.
She started off with a head cold...by the next day she was having trouble breathing and checked herself into the local hospital. They sent her to a larger medical centre....where at some point she ended up in intensive care with organ failure. From the onset of the head cold to her death....One Week!!
My mom's shots were cancelled on Oct 9th. I made phone calls to the specialist begging and pleading with his "ditzy" receptionist....all to no avail. I sent a fax to the family doctor explaining what was going on and our concerns....because the specialist is heading off on holidays Oct 20th. Yesterday morning, in a last ditch attempt I had hubby call the "ditzy" receptionist. He requested that her files be transferred to the Family Doctor and we would get him to find a Radiologist to administer the required shots. Later, yesterday afternoon mom got a call from the specialist's office telling her to be at the hospital at 3. So today, we trekked into the city....and Hallelujah...mom got them!! Oddly enough we had two appointments set-up (according to the receptionist in the Radiology department) one with her specialist and another one with a Radiologist who was willing to administer the shots.
Will wonders never cease? I am thankful beyond measure. Somebody was watching over us
Hopefully the meds will kick in soon so mom gets relief from the excrutiating pain she has had to endure.
Ummm....one more thing before I sign out for the night....here is a picture of our newborn "great grandson" Nicholas...he was born on October 13th weighing a whopping 9 lbs 12 oz.
I have three young adult step-grandchildren....Nicholas is the son of oldest). 10月5日 What a beautiful start to October![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Our October is off to a breathtaking start. Little nippy in the morning but by mid-afternoon it is warm enough to shed the light coat and sweater and run around in short-sleeved shirts. Every once in a while the wind picks up...but that's OK...it blows away any pollution and we have a stellar view of mountains that in the summer months are hidden in a white haze.I'm attaching some pictures of my grandkids Hannah, Mattias and baby Quinn on one of their fishing trips.
Also some photos of Noah helping his Daddy.
Mom's appointment for her cortisone shot is on Friday...I am fervently praying that it will be a go!! When I spoke to the docs receptionist a couple of weeks ago asking if they were on schedule....all she said was "I hope so" (not terribly reassuring). The renovations to the treatment rooms at the hospital are complete...but for some reason there is a problem with the technicians? Well, it's not my problem, nor is it mom's. We are going in on Friday and we are not leaving until she has had those shots....so there!! (Stick that in your pipe and smoke it !! )
This coming weekend is our Canadian Thanksgiving....haven't made any plans as of yet...but I guess I better get off my butt and do so quickly.
Both kitties were taken to the Vet last Thursday for spaying and neutering. Both were doing fine until a couple of days ago. Tigger, the female, started acting lethargic...not eating and drinking much, and staggering a little when she walked. Her incision site is clean and healing nicely...no idea what is wrong. I took the little female down to the Vets today...she is running a fever of unknown origin (she will be treated with antiobiotics). The little boy is doing well. Next blog I will put up some pictures of my two new family members.
Pray all is well with my blogging friends. 9月25日 Wednesday Rants...on FridayTraditionally, Wednesday's are rant days....but I'm sorry, these couldn't wait.
Not sure if you recall my mentioning back in August about the Yahoo that left his 3 month old baby and 2 year-old toddler in a parked SUV on one of the hottest evenings and went into a beer garden (at a local fairground).
A lady inside the beer garden overheard him mention something about having to go out and check on his kids. She reported it to the security guards (who promptly called police). The security guys followed him out to his SUV. All the windows were rolled up. When he opened up the door both little ones were crying. The police brought along paramedics. Both kids were seriously dehydrated, covered in sweat, and both had very soiled diapers.
Child abuse, child neglect....you name it, I expected them to throw the book at him.
Believe it or not...a couple of days ago the police announced that other than the fact the father used "poor judgment" he was not going to be charged !! The reasoning behind this was that they could not prove how long the children were in the vehicle.
The guy was three sheets to the wind...OK...so lets give him the benefit of the doubt and say that he was only in there for say one drink....that tells me he drove those kids in a drunken state to the fair. Could they not have charged him for driving under the influence? Of course, the argument there would be...maybe he didn't drive.
I personally think this family (who have some wealth....never mind the fact that the guy and his wife were known to police) hired some pretty darn sleazy lawyers who don't give a rat's ass about kids. When the media tried to interview the grandfather of the kids, a few days after the incident...he pretty much gave them the finger and told them to get the F*@& off his property and stop blowing things out of proportion.
Thankfully the kids are under the scrutiny of the Ministry (not sure if they are back with mom and dad...probably)....but we all know what happens to Ministry kids anyway....so I have no repect left for our justice system. Can't believe the cops and paramedics are so powerless to do anything !!
My second rant has to do with a lovely community in this province called Bountiful....a polygamous community tied to those in Utah (Warren Jeffs et. al.). It has been here for years....and for years has been under scrutiny. Finally one of our provincial gov't officials decided it was time to prosecute (polygamy is after all, illegal in our society). The Bountiful men (who are now Canadian citizens) argued that they should be left alone Under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Can you believe they actually got it thrown out of the Supreme Court ??
So, I guess its OK to leave little kids in a sweltering hot vehicle and go off drinking....and to take on as many wives and father as many children as you wish...bearing in mind that some of these wives are as young as fifteen.
Something stinks up here in our fair Province of British Columbia (being hailed by the Olympic Committee as being the "greatest place on earth"....yeah Right!!) and it ain't the dung on the fields!!
On a more positive note...a guy abused his cat...was charged and jailed. What is wrong with this picture??? You can abuse your kids, illegally marry and impregnate 15 years old....but don't you dare hurt a cat because the consequences are dire. (I'm glad they nailed the cat abuser...but what about the others !! )
Well, now that I've got all that off my chest, I can't say I feel any better.
Only two more weeks left until my mom finally gets her long awaited treatment for her back. She has done well, considering the wait.
Noah is recovering from a fever.....caused by an ear infection and possibly a urinary tract infection...thankfully one medication will cure both....other than a slight cold the little guy has been healthy up 'til now.
Mattias' lip has healed up nicely (he no longer looks like Donald Duck). The tooth has not yet come down into position...so as you can see from the picture he suddenly looks more like a five year-old who has lost his first tooth than a 2 1/2 year old.
Hannah is slowly getting over her anxiety of grade one and being at school all day.
Quinn is thriving and is attempting to roll over already. The way she is chewing on things and drooling might indicate that she is already teething.
Tomorrow my kids, grandkids and my mom (and hubby and I, of course) are going to a local restaurant for a belated birthday dinner for my daughter.
In the pictures below you will see Quinn with her little boyfriend (he is one month younger) and weighed two pounds less than Quinn at birth.
Hannah and Mattias donned their winter outfits and started making imaginary snow Angels on the floor...LOL
And a cute picture of Noah kissing a toy.
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
